The Sarah Smith PTA funds and operates programs that support the quality of the school experience for all students at Sarah Smith, through an extensive volunteer network and the PTA's annual budget. Some of the activities supported by your contributions to the PTA, both in time and money, include:
International Travelers: A week-long immersion into the culture, geography, food and language of another country, International Travelers is a collaborative effort among countless parent volunteers, teachers and the SRS administration. Countries that students have visited include Japan (2010), Italy (2011), India (2012), Australia (2013), Brazil (2014) and South Africa (2015). International Travelers is a program unique to Sarah Smith.
Field Trips: While APS provides one cultural field trip per year to all of its students, the Sarah Smith PTA coordinates both in-house science field trips through High-Touch, High-Tech and several off-site trips per grade each year to places like the Art Barn, Tellus Museum, Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta History Center.
Playground equipment and maintenance: The Sarah Smith PTA provided the funds to furnish playground equipment at both campuses and the installation of artificial turf at the Intermediate Campus playground. The PTA also pays for yearly playground maintenance. In 2015-16, the PTA will pay all expenses related to the installation of artificial turf and a sports court on the Primary Campus playground.
School-wide communications: Weekly e-mail updates, the Sarah Smith Web site, the school directory (available only to PTA members), and all the other methods to keep you up-to-date with school happenings are funded and supported by the PTA and its volunteers.
